"Curu" a mythological being in Brazilian folklore
Curu, short for Curupira is known as a mischievous forest spirit and the guardian of the Amazon rainforest and its wildlife. He is Protector of the forest: Curu punishes those who harm the forest or hunt more than they need. He is especially harsh on those who kill animals that are raising their young.

It implements laws against deforestation where the government ceases to implement. The agency is also regulates illegal wildlife trafficking, pollution, oil spills, and other environmental crimes. IBAMA engages in armed enforcement, using tactical personnel to keep the forest from loggers, farming, agricultural farm grazing or anything that would threaten the Amazon.
